An update on the mundane...
Things haven't been extraordinary lately. Honestly, the last few weeks have done a fabulous job of just blurring together into one sort of bland miasma of events that had no real direction one way or another.
Now, allow me to clarify, before I continue any further : nothing catastrophic has happened since I last posted. However, the basic situation with my "job" isn't necessarily a good one currently, and there has been little that's brought light to that. So, if you're judging my mood as gloomy, you're reading well. However, there was nothing that necessarily directly damaged it - my mood has been slowly deflated, it hasn't been popped.
That said, there are few things bringing me terribly much joy currently. My wife, my friends, and the few games we play amongst ourselves are what currently keep me afloat.
Meg (who has been supportive of me as my job has slumped) and I have been making a point to spend more time together. Monday and Thursday are our date nights, where we forgo all other plans to spend an evening doing whatever. We might never leave the couch and just watch Law and Order reruns, or we might go out to dinner and a movie. Regardless, the time together has helped. We're communicating better than we have been, and that's a very important thing.
My friends, as well, have been wonderful and supportive. The roleplaying with the Livonia crew gets expensive as gas skyrockets even higher (regular unleaded scraping the bottom of the $4 mark as I type this), so Rob arranged to set up Skype to "tele-game." He set up his webcam, a microphone on the table, and put me on a chair so I could be there digitally like some sort of über-geek Max Headroom. The system had its problems, of course, but I was able to participate, and it's very cool that my friends are willing to do stuff like that to keep me involved.
Jason, Ed, and Amber have been coming over to our place, also, for the Red Wings games - I have the big screen HDTV, and that makes the game SO much better! It's been really cool having everyone over, instead of having to trek out to Ferndale to hang out... the apartment isn't necessarily huge by any means, and there's still a lot of cleaning to do, but it's very serviceable currently, and having people over gives us a good reason to keep it that way.
Anyway, that's the basic low-down. I'll probably post later on my games category, but I'll cut this short now before I start rambling.
