Category Image  The Weekend Wrap-up

So, wow, I actually like.... DID STUFF this weekend. You know, the kind of things you write about and don't feel like a putz for putting it in your blog.

Friday evening : Went out to the Red Wings game with Jason. He lives in a really nice house in Bloomfield, but his street is called "Little Lane" which, as I found out the hard way, is not just a clever name. It looks amazingly like a driveway, due to the cobblestone half-walls on either side of it, and the fact that it's ONE LANE WIDE. It was for this reason that Jason instructed me to call him when I got close, and he'd guide me in from there. I, of course, disregarded this advice, and had to call him with my head hung in shame when I blew past his street.

The wings lost. It wasn't even a valiant effort against a colossal foe. It was David and Goliath, and sadly, it was Detroit's turn to play Goliath. We lost 5-1 against a team that has never had a play-off appearance. We lost under all those championship banners. It felt like blaspheming in the Vatican. In spite of that, Jason and I had a good time. We went back to his place after that, and he showed me the wonders that is "The Joe Schmo Show" He lent me the DVDs, which I have yet to finish watching.

Saturday was ... eventful. I had to work my first Saturday in forever to set up a teleconference for one of our clients and a bunch of investors. Everything worked well enough, with one or two minor glitches. I was out of there about 12:30 in the afternoon, and headed over to Carl's.

Carl wanted me to go with him to Guitar Center, because he was intent on buying an electric guitar for once. He'd dabbled long enough, and was ready to step up and get a good one. He ended up with an Epiphone that looks a lot like this, only it's cherrywood red. We got the guitar back to his place, and as he was tuning it, noticed that the neck was cracked - a critical flaw in a guitar. So, we took it back, as we knew they had another on the rack there. Before we left, Carl checked his bank account, and noticed he still had a little budget left, so he sprung for a Line 6 "Spider III" amp. He turns to me and says, "You need one too," in that off-handed, i'm just saying this to bullshit, i don't really mean you need to buy one sort of way. Which is why my reply caught him completely off guard when I said, "I do? Cool. Lemmy make the call." Sure enough, Meg said we had a little money to play with, and I could afford the $100 that the amp cost. It's a NICE amp, too, with all sorts of distortion settings and the like, so I can party like a rock star. We spent the evening playing our guitars until our fingers hurt... it was great.

But I wasn't done with Saturday quite yet. I went home, relaxed for a little, and then Carl, Kenzie, and I snagged 2 pugs and did the Caverns of Time grand tour in World of Warcraft. More silly pug stories ensued, but I'll not bore you with a repeat of the "omg this guy is the worst warlock ever" tale that's oh-so-common. Suffice to say, we ended up beating both instances, and I got some gear upgrades out of it, as well as a few quests out of the way, and a good leg-up on the rep I need for my Glyph of the Defender.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! About midnight, Josh calls me, and says, "Hey! I'm going to Pat's tonight. C'mon over and visit and check out the stuff I'm working on." So I did. At 1 AM I headed over there with my green toolbox and some of my pewter models in tow, and got 3 of them put together. It was nice to visit with Pat again, as I don't get the chance to do that all too often. I need to make a point of improving on that. We watched "The Big Lebowski" and had a good time. I got home at 5 AM in the middle of a good ol' Michigan ice storm.

Apparently TJ is mad at me, and has decided to stop talking to me. If you're reading this, TJ, and if you care to resolve this, call me, and we'll discuss it.

Saturday gave way to Sunday, and we hung out at Ed and Amber's for the evening. We went for a walk, which was a horrible mistake. Note to self - no matter how much of a refreshing change 40º weather might be in the middle of winter, it's still not GOOD weather, and certainly not good enough to take a walk in. Likewise, drastic changes in weather bring with them wind storms. 40º is tolerable. 40º and WINDY is less so. Lastly, nothing is open in down-town Ferndale on a Sunday afternoon. Jason came over and we played Chez Geek and some Lunch Money that evening, and then went home around Midnight. All involved had a good time, and now it's Monday again.

Ugh.
